Yes, I am outraged. How can Congress continue this fallacy of the near bankruptcy of the united States when they provide almost a trillion dollars in tax cuts to their wealthy constiuents and enter yet another military conflict. It is obvious that doom is not impending, except from the paultry benefits of the federal workforce. Remember the events of the winter of 2011 on 6 November 2012 and VOTE.

Here's a mystery question. How can any federal employee vote Republican? I have colleagues who work for the federal government and still vote Republican despite the fact that Republicans seem to make it their mission to demonize, unfairly criticize, demoralize and destroy federal employees - despite the work federal employees do for the American public. The GOP paints all feds wtih the same brush regardless of the Agency -- if you work on border sercurity, federal prisons, national security, VA, etc. I'm interested in hearing from some of these feds who regularly vote Republican. Why do you continue to vote for people that want to reduce and/or eliminate your benefits and constantly take shots at you?

The reason we vote Republican is that Fed pay and benefits is just one of many issues. The Democrats/liberals may be more Fed friendly, but that doesn't make up for all the other bs they try to push, which is a lot. Voting is basically deciding who the lesser of two evils are because they are all going to lie to us and go back on promises. I don't recall the Republican's going after us quite this strong before. If you don't like how your representative is handling the situation you need to call his office and say so. If enough people do that it might help. Am I happy with the Republican's right now? Absolutely not, I haven't been for awhile now. I'm inclined to vote Independent, but history shows they aren't voted into office so it ends up being a Republican or Democrat. If I had to pick between the two I'd rather have a Republican who believes in the constitution, believes in protecting our rights as citizens and states rights, who realize we can't pay for everyone down on their luck indefinitely and especially illegal aliens who are breaking us financially and filling our jails. I could go on and on.

  • Voting Republican?

First, you have the right to your political beliefs. Your political beliefs appear to be to the right of center. But certain things you say are not correct.---------------------- You do not remember the Republicans going after us like they do now. Ronald Reagan is an example of those who went after us to an extreme, from pay raises, to the health plan, to the FERS pension plan which is not nearly as goode as CSRS. To say that the Democrats do not believe in the Constitution is just plain stupid. They just do not believe in your interpretation of the Constitution. Big difference.--- They also believe in protecting the rights of all citizens, even the accused. Not allowing the accused a lawyer or trial by jury as guaranteed in the Constitution, is a sick joke foistered on us by the radical right. "War" on terrorism? That is the same as "war" on poverty. We make a special effort to get rid of it, but we do not take away the rights of people in this "war". And we do not put people on trial for being poor. Terrorism is a crime and should be treated as such, with all of the constitutional guarantees.------------------------------------------------------------------- You comment about paying someone down on their luck indefinitely. Where does that come from? Please be accurate and do not exagerate. Your comment about illegal aliens makes no sense. If they are illegal aliens send them back to the country of their origin instead of allowing the wealthy to use them as cheap employees.

If you know of anyone who wants to do hard manual labor that these illegal immigrants do for our country, and for much less than the minimum wage, call me? I would prefer to give my money regardless of race and status to someone who wants to work, over someone who looks capable of working, and yet chooses to hold a cardboard sign begging for my money!

Because I think a lot of people vote just to feel important. No matter if the person is qualified or not. The basis of " I like him/her or atleast he/she better than the other guy." Most of these people that are in the WH and the people who voted for them are scarry. Just look at for instance that idiot Palin is a presidential candidate and the rest of those yahoos. The folks that are running for office are just as dumb as dish water, but folks will RUN to the poles and put them in. To bad we don't have a crystal ball or able to look into folks hearts to see first, the people and country best interest at heart. US is just going to get worst and worst due to the lackwitted folks in office.

Let me preface my reply to say that I'm not happy with the recent developments either. As for voting; it's easy, we are a military family who believes in limited governmental power, strong national defense, capitalism, individual responsibility, first, second and tenth amendment protections. While I agree with your point that we are unfairly targeted; do acknowledge that Dems have had majorities in Congress since 2006 with tons of wreckless spending on BOTH sides of the aisle before and since. We can't continue to spend more than IRS can collect. I don't want to turn this into a political argument; we didn't get into this mess overnight and both sides are to blame. Let's be honest; there is wasteful spending in federal agencies. That being said, here are MANY other ways to save $ in the federal budget besides cutting our health and retirement benefits we've worked all these years to rightfully earn. There are duplicative programs across the civilian agencies that if analyzed objectively, could be merged or eliminated to save much more money that would be gained from a pay freeze or benefit limitation.

I am retired a registered Republican who votes for the one with common sense. There is no republicans anymore. They use to look out for federal workers, now they are all the same. When I vote I vote for the one that uses common sense, no matter what party. Here they go again with the same each serveral years looking for ways to save. They received a report of all the duplication in government. Clean the duplication up and they will have found all the money they need,

It's a sad day in America. All the rights and privliges that our forefathers fought and died for are now under attack. The right to unionize and have a decent retirement are bad words in this America that we have created. What makes matters worse is now the benifits that we have worked for are being considered as political barganing chips. When the pay freeze is over, will we be compensated for being good employees and taking the pain ? Of course not ! Year after year some excuse is given to us why our pay raises must be far less that what was promised. As a group, we need to exercise our right to vote and make our voice heard. I didn't vote for what is happening now, and neither did you !

Fight back! Join the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Go to www.narfe.org. Participate in their ProtectAmericasHeartbeat.org campaing which is giving a personal face to federal workers and will go to the Hill. Vote in every election, national, state, and local. Get these monsters out of office. Contact your Senators and Representative on a constant and consistent basis. They all have web pages and make it very easy to email them. Work on campaigns - you are allowed to do that, just don't collect or handle any campaign money, including collecting money at the door of a fundraiser. When you hear someone diss federal workers, identify yourself as one, or a retiree, tell them what you do (did) and ask why they dislike you so much personally and professionally. Don't argue with them. Ask them what system they would suggest that was absent federal workers. If they gripe about health insurance, ask them why it's OK with them that you wouldn't be able to afford health care? Ask them what federal benefits they enjoy, such as TriCare, medicare, tax credits and ask them which of those they're willing to give up. Do they have a child in special education? Are they willing to give up federal protections for their challenged child to be in public school? Think up your own examples of what I'm saying and DO IT. VOTE. JOIN NARFE.

JenCinVA, Excuse me, but I'm a Democrat and I believe in and totally support the Constitution. I find your explanation of why you're a Fed who votes Republican totally weak and lacking in specifics. Sorry. I'm not attacking you, just telling you what I don't see in your response. Please remember that someday you may be down on your luck and need some help while you regroup or even try to survive a tragedy that hit you or a family member. The illegal alien population is decreasing because many are returning to their countries due to lack of work. It's easy to blame them, but really, in the total picture, they aren't to blame for our abysmal economy, any more than you are as a federal worker. So, which of your federal benefits are you willing to sacrifice? Health insurance? Have to declined FEHBP? Federal funds into your retirement? Are you looking to leave federal service because you don't want federal support into your retirement? Medicare? Are you looking for a job where the employer doesn't pay into Medicare? (Yes, those places exist.) Any active or retired military in your family? Have you talked to them about declining TriCare? Grandparent on social security? Are you willing to get them to decline social security and use your income, instead, to support them?
