  • To spend or not to spend

OY!! This is absolutely the most painful long drawn out thing I have ever had to deal with. If these politicians were in the real world in not having a budget 6 months after they were supposed to, they'd all be fired! In feg agencies, if they didnt have a budget to present to Congress, guess what, they'd be fired. So why are these people permitted to drag on a process well in to half of a year? What is the point of having the term "Fiscal Year" when for the last decade, it doesnt really exist other than a date to start and stop contracts. It certainly isnt for budet purposes anymore. I have socked away enough money for a 3 week pay period. Since the Republican Regime took office (and even before), I have spent very little in the economy because of the constant threat to my livelihood. This has gone on now for over a year. Its excruciating to be afraid to spend a dime on anything frivolous like..I need a new washing machine, as mine is on its last leg, but I wont buy because I fear that even spending that $500 for a cheapy washing machine, could be money wasted to take food off of the table. We havent been out to dinner in almost a year. We cut our household budget down so that we were able to save...which is fine, thats what people do when they feel doom is knocking at your door. The mental anguish is that the knocker has been knocking for way too long. Its all anyone at work talks about. People are affected by all of this. There is just this looming feeling in the air..partly that morale is terrible because of leaders injected a virus in to the taxpayers that say we stink, we are worthless vial human beings that deserve nothing but contempt. How cold anyone feel happy each day going to work knowing what you do doesnt mean beans. I as a taxpayer..have....had it! I as a federal worker...have....had it!

    FERS Fed
The Tea Partiers and other fiscal terrorists who are stamping their feet and threatening to hold their breath and shutdown the federal government until they get their way will be slowly marginalized. They don't seem to understand or appreciate that the very basis for our form of government is debate and compromise, and was expressly designed to minimize the kind of radical changes these autocrats are demanding. That's not to say that changes in the federal budget aren't necessary, or that those changes shouldn't affect federal employees. But the pendulum has swung from the far left in 2008 to the far right in 2010, and soon will be swinging back towards the center just in time for the 2012 elections. The times are uncomfortable for us feds, but no one will be losing their heads. The petty tyrants will get their due. Sic semper tyrannus!

  • Oh how soon we forget...
    Shepherd
We ARE still talking about the FY2011 budget here so quit pointing the finger toward the "Republican Regime". This budget was introduced in February of 2010, to be passed before October 1, 2010. The current "Regime" wasn't even elected into office when this budget should have been finalized. The blame lies fully with the majority party between February and October 2010...period! The Democrats were worried about making a decision on this budget before the elections because they didn't want to harm their precious political careers. Well, look at what that got them. Yes, the Republican's are being pig headed, but only because the Democrats left over from the ousting haven't a leg to stand on. Republicans are trying to clean up a mess ignored by the Democrats for the first 9 months of 2010. We aren't suffering because of the Republicans, we are suffering because the Democrats refused to pass the budget when they should have...plain and simple.

  • Maybe so, but Republicans...
    FERS Fed
...especially the Tea Partiers ARE the ones trying to balance the 2011 budget on the backs of feds, which is the point of the discussion, Shep.

  • Who's fault?
    Cindi
If the Democrats had passed the budget as they should have then non of this would be happening and no one would be bashing Federal employees. If you really think with your head and stop being sorry losers because of the election then you would see who's fault this really is. Democrats caused all this in the first place by not giving us a budget when they should have.

A regime is the form of government: the set of rules, cultural or social norms, etc. that regulate the operation of government and its interactions with society. The United States has one of the oldest regimes still active in the world, dating to the ratification of its Constitution in 1789. Although modern usage often gives the term a negative connotation, like an authoritarian one, Webster's definition clearly states that the word "regime" refers simply to a form of government. ------------------- Who's in charge in Washington, definitely not the Republicans. ---------------------- If the Democrats wanted a budget soooooooooooo bad, why did they not pass one before the election, they had all the power, Democratic President, Democrats in the House and Senate had the majority. They did not because they know the American people would know exactly who was really spending all their money. Not passing a budget when they had they opportunity only goes to show they did not want the wrath of the American people on them because the budge is so outrageous, now they can blame everything on the Republicans who do not control the Senate!! ---------Think about this, if the Democrats had passed the budget when they had all the control no one would be picking on federal employees now, it would be a mute issue.

You are not alone; I have had it and way sick of it. This country has gone straight down into the dumps due to the pathetic people who are running it. Super Power Congress like to say, BS!! This country has fallen behind many countries who was once behind the USA. Do you folks know that each student gets to attend college regardless if their parents are rich or not, senior citizens are well taking care of, no homeless people on the streets in most parts of the European countries? Sweden has "the" best healthcare system in the world followed by I believe Danmark, Norway and others. People in Danmark only have to pay something for cosmetic med/dental surgery otherwise they get free med/dental, kids can attend college for free only having to pay for books/supplies. USA kids have to be dirt poor to get their college paid for, if you middle class, you get no help, if you rich it's paid for.------- We have a Congress that are millionaires who gets FREE medical /dental while we have people in this country ( senior citizens) who have to make a choice of eating or paying for meds. Poor people who are hungry, kids crying cause of no food, but Congress are millionaires who get FREE medical/ dental.

  • Way to much
    Cindi
Taxable income in Denmark is taxed at progressive rates up to 38 to 59%. The Danish individual tax is divided into the payment of county municipal, church and national income taxes. ------ Individuals in Sweden pay both national income tax and municipal income tax. In 2010, individual income tax rates in Sweden are between 54% and 61%, 57.77% being the average tax rate. ------ Individual income tax rates in Switzerland consist of Swiss federal, cantonal and communal taxes. The maximum rate of federal tax rate is 11.5%, adding the cantonal and communal taxes the total tax burden on individuals change between 22.42% - 42.28% depending on canton. ---- Greece Personal income tax rates in Greece are progressive up to 40%-----U.S. individual income tax rates are progressive up to 35%, ---------- So if I give up more taxes, which they are going to take anyway then I will get all that stuff you talk about for free? NOT!!!!!

So now, Fed employees are faced with not being able to feed their families because Congress cannot get their act together, but hey they are millionaires who get FREE medical/dental and change the laws to suit them ---------- We have some GREEDY money hungry power hungry grubbers sitting in the WH. Since they are hollering about cutting this and that, freeze this and that. Then why isn't their pay not cut, why not freeze their pay for the next 5yrs and pay for their Med/dental like the rest of the country. It is so hypocritical for anyone of these to point the finger when they are the biggest JOKE and has made a mockery of this country.
