  • Shutdown Warning: Don's Shoot Self in Foot
    Celtic Wolf
Ready on the Right! Ready on the Left! Ready on the Firing Line! Shoot!! Well one message that needs to be sent and taken to heart is "make your own decisions". With the impending or possible furlough, and freezes/high 5s/new performance plans, as federal employees we need to stand firm on our decisions. We should retire when we want to; we should look for other employment when we want to; and most importantly we should push back against the insanity when and where we want to. Many cities are hosting rallies to promote employee solidarity. As Martha Stewart states "That is a good thing". Please folks ignore the innuendos in media messages, ignore the stupidity and false statements; yet please stand strong and protect your rights.

  • Get involved
    SGT Pepper
In addition to standing firm in our decisions, and standing up for ourselves, becoming more active politically is a must. It always has been, but perhaps this will make some Feds wake up. I'm continually astonished with each election cycle over how many of my fellow Feds don't vote, and even more astonished at times, with how little those who do vote know about the people they're voting for. ---

  • It really is the only option
    StarTrek1701
SGT Pepper is right. Political activism or, at least, getting out and voting these idiots out-of-office is really the only option open to a FED employee. We can't strike. A work slow-down only ends up hurting the taxpayers who rely on us for necessary services. No, the only option open is the voting booth. There are millions of us around this nation. That is a sizable voting block. We need to take note of those who seem willing to cut our pay in half, furlough us, bash us on the floor of Congress, or take forced time-off and vote them out; being sure they know who it was that voted them out. It will be a lesson to those still in and those that want to be voted in.

  • Absolutely right!
    HRLady
It amazes me how many people do not vote or even pay attention to what is going on in our nation! Perhaps I am naive, but I am still stunned by the number of people who take the main stream media news as gospel. When did people stop asking questions? When did America forget how to read? Why is it that no one finds the answers or facts for themselves? We have the opportunity to reach out to our congressmen and women; we can demand answers, change, and respect. If enough American’s paid attention to what’s happening in Washington, they could not get away with some of these things they currently do.

  • Forgot how to read English?
    deployed decoy
Many KEY voters these folks depend on to get them in office cant even read English. Questions aside if they even can legally vote. I for one would require a USA Passport or some future federal ID card as proof of who someone is before they vote and that ID be entered into a federal database so they cant vote 8 times. When my wife took her drivers license test in 1992 they offered the test in Spanish but not German, so they let me translate the Q&As she had problems understanding. She by the way has refused to become an American and just keeps her Green Card current to one day suck this system a bit more dry by getting my social security when I get hit by a bus or shot in Germany on a bus at the Frankfurt airport with US Military all over the side, violating force protection protocol.

  • TSP Expert
    deployed decoy
The money does not sit in an account. It is spent for government activities. Whenever a TSP participant wants his principle/interest back, the G-fund securities are reduced by the amount the participant wants to borrow or withdraw. I agree with the guy saying he is pulling out of TSP. We all should. The G fund would collapse, TSP would need a bailout, as well as the US treasury, sure not enough social security to spend frivolously to keep the lights on in Congress. I had no idea those same fools could use our TSP as they so chose

Don't waste hours or days applying for unemployment benefits unless Congress says you're not going to get paid. My guess is that 72% of Feds will not be furloughed. This may be tough for the 28% of you that have to decide what to do.
