As others have said in the poll questions and radio comments, it is a personal call by each employee with respect to going in to work and leaving for home. One either wants to get paid or not (or take leave). It is ridiculous to believe that the government, or any other employer, should coddle its employees like schoolchildren. Yes, winter weather is sometimes dangerous, but life itself is not a guaranteed safe ride. As for things like being informed regarding Government closing decisions, OPM has its web site, http://www.opm.gov/ which has a link at the upper right for "Operating Status." Click on that and you have access to the Operating status for the D.C. area as well as other Geographic areas nation-wide. Lastly, you can even provide your e-mail address through another link on the Operating Status page and receive e-mails regarding the operating status at whatever address(es) you wish. I received the e-mail notification of the 2 hour early departure from OPM at about 11:45 A.M. and my agency, IRS, sent its own message at 12:55 P.M.
