  • Tax Simplification?
    contrarian
It's getting so convoluted that it's hard to keep up! I'm sure I've lost a tax credit for insulation, appliances or something somewhare. Like a rebate form that you lose. Can we re-enact TEFRA 86?

  • Freeze/Raise
    fredericksburger
FERS emps would have received both the raise in pay and the "raise" in non-taxation without the new law, so it's a wash. Perhaps in two years, Congress will begin seeing the light and tie automatic annual raises to the cost-of-living as well as "comparability" for active employees as well as retirees.

  • 2% Soc Sec Tax Reduction
    Leberk
With the Social Security program on the verge of bankruptcy it is lunacy to reduce the funding. But then it makes as much sense as anything done by Congress in the past two years. When will the madness stop?

  • Congress
    Moderate
You sound like a nice radical rightist. Let us say that Congress from 1995-2006 was sicekning. Remember the shut downs in the 90's. Remember the Iraqi War started for false reasons. So much more was done by the Republicans. And now they will be sicker with the tea party drinking their kool aid. Oh well.

    Low Paid Fed
Moderate Did you say, " SICKER WITH THE TEA PARTY DRINKING THIER KOOL AID." LoL! I must admit because that is exactly what Congress will be doing, but let's not forget the fact, that some take coffee without the sugar.

  • Tea party
    Moderate
Actually, your statement is true about the Congress of 1995-2006. Additionally, all you have to do is look at one leader of the tea party, mainly Sarah Palin, to understand my position. The radical right has better candidates than Sarah Palin, but she is a major or the leader of the tea party.

  • Is it fair to CSRS?
    Linbob
Yes, it is very fair. CSRS employees are paying themselves. Their entire contribution goes into their retirement. FERS employees pay some to themselves, via TSP and pension, and the rest goes into SS to pay current retirees. FERS was intended to decrease the amount that federal retirees would get from the government pension. On top of that, CSRS employees have the option to contribute to voluntary investment program (VIP), and a certificate that provides higher than current rates return (I read about this on the Federal page just a few days ago). FERS wmplyees are not eligible for VIP and that certificate is only for CSRS personnel. CSRS retirees get more money than FERS retirees, with possibly the exception of high ranking personnel who were able to invest the highest amounts to TSP from the start (most employees are not able to do that). If CSRS folks want to contribute less to their own retirement funds, go for it - they are the only ones who will be hurt by it. The extension of the tax cuts for ALL citizens is shameful. The President talked about shared pain. Well, I don't see anyone else sharing the pain - once again, the federal emplyees are bearing the burden while everyone else gets a pass. I guess it was only important enough to stick it to those lazy, overpaid, under-worked feds. I can see that this will taken up again in two years with the same result. There is no integrity in either the House or the Senate. By the way, after watching the Senate in action over this past week, I would say that the word "bureaucrats" is more fitting to the Senators than to any of the feds I know - talk about rigid and stick to the rules!

  • Fair?

Social security does pay current retirees. So what? Current retirees paid social security for their predecessors. And when you retire, you will expect the future workers to pay your social security. You also get the TSP match. I do agree that I would not trade CSRS for FERS. However, reconsider the expense issue. The government is supposed to match CSRS contributions to the pension plan. The government pays much more for the FERS plan since you only contribute .8%. By law, CSRS people were not permitted to contribute to social security.----------------- The VIP plan has no value. I never contributed to it. Compare its payout to the TSP plan payout. Is there a significant difference. And remember we pay with after tax dollars and still pay taxes on its earnings. Everyone should get the 2% reductions.

  • Pay Freeze/GWB Inheritance
    Low Paid Fed
I find it ironic that some people would say: In the last 2 years this country has been going down OR When is the madnes gone stop? My question is, why didn't these same folks voice this previously doing the 8 years prior? This country is in this mess due to GWB and his cronies( rep) that left a HUGE DEFIICT behind and no one can refute that fact. GWB has had "the" worst reign above all other Presidents in this country. A lot of people voted for this man the second time around, ( can't say the 1st round) and did not see that GWB did not have any leadership, let alone President qualities at all. Just because someone daddy was President once doesn't mean that person is worthy. GWB brought this country down, along with those republicans who rode on the gravy train with him. President Obama inherited this deficit. He nor the next President will solve all the issues. This may take quite some years to fix. Lets not try to put all the blame on Obama, ok. He did not get this country in the "HOT MESS" its in. GWB did that, you know ya'lls ex President, whom had the brother who had all the voting issue's in his state.. yeah Rightttttttttttttttt!!
