"The breakdown in controls left the funds vulnerable to inappropriate uses and undetected loss," SIGIR says. The breakdown in controls of the funds resulted in theft. FTFY

Our government is the most incompetent and unaccountable organization in our country. Billions go missing and nobody at the top goes to jail. Why? Because we citizens do not require accountability of our elected and appointed officials. They can virtually do anything and not fear being held accountable. We truly have degenerated from a representative republic into an Oligarchy RULED by 545 ruling elites, that do not care about the citizenry only Party Power and enrichening themselves, their families and cronies!!!

I could not agree more with your comment! The waste, fraud, and abuse by our public officials outweigh that commioted by private citizens. We might do a few hundred, but they have honed their skills to lose billion$! We go to jail - they go up for re-election, and their serfs re-elect them !! Most Americans do not realize that we have lost our beloved Republic and have become serfs to the feudal lords in Washington. We are collectively so enmeshed wioth our " Entitlement Programs" that far too many are no longer capable of taking care of themselves - Katrina being the premier example. WE MUST VOTE ALL ENCUMBENTS OUT in November - ALL!

Every taxpayer should get $100 back from the DoD, lets get San Diego back as well thanks. The economy would shoot straight ahead and fly right for a change, instead of protecting the opium fields of the Afghans.

The Department of Education should have been totally shut down and eliminated years ago. They do not educate a single child anywhjere in the United States. A total waste of scarce resources. Send their entire budget to the 50 states on an equitable basis and rule that it MUST be spent on school facilities, NOT salaries.

    Fred Evil
Seriously, you don't actually believe what you wrote, do you? Sure, there's some waste, but claiming they don't educate anyone anywhere is absolutely silly.

You're funny....What's everyone gonna do out there if the military leaves? Sell pot? "A new analysis of the economic impact of the military in San Diego shows defense spending generates an estimated 340,000 jobs in the region." - http://www.kpbs.org/news/2010/apr/21/new-analysis-militarys-economic-impact-san-diego/

  • Base Closings
    John Q Dallas
Using the same method of determining the economic impact on jobs, the military actually creates more jobs than there are jobs. The base closings in San Antonio, including the largest air base (Kelly), indicate that in many areas the natural resources will support other jobs. The San Deigo coast and climate would easily attract other jobs. The area is only hurt by high taxes and social spending.
