The $1 trillion omnibus spending bill for the rest of Fiscal Year 2014 should pass both Houses of Congress by the end of the week. For the first time in a long time, we have an appropriated Defense bill. One of the people looking at it is Gordon Adams, professor of International Relations at American University, distinguished fellow at the Stimson Center and former associate director for National Security and International Affairs at the Office of Management and Budget.

Congress will vote this week on the budget deal for the rest of Fiscal 2014. The House voted first this afternoon. Mike Causey has a front-line look at how the bill will impact you and your federal colleagues from today’s Your Turn program. His guest was Pat Niehaus, president of the Federal Managers Association. A change in strategy is due at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and at the contractors they work with. The Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services finds both CMS and its contractors could use some changes of strategy in the transition to electronic health records.

The Pentagon’s top acquisition official says the final spending bill House and Senate negotiators will vote on this week will take some pressure off of some areas of DoD’s budget, at least temporarily. But he says he’s still very worried about cutbacks to research and development spending.

Archuleta’s goal is to both understand OPM as an agency and OPM as a service provider to other departments.
