Carper: Over-promising contractors part of DoD budget woes

Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del) is chairing a hearing on weapons systems cost overruns this afternoon.

One-third of weapons systems the Defense Department has bought since 1997 are over budget, and some of them by as much as 50 percent. Those stunning numbers are out today from the Government Accountability Office, and Senator Tom Carper is going over them this afternoon with the GAO, the Defense Department, and other defense acquisition experts.
