Department of Homeland Security

Brendan Goode is the Director of Network Security Deployment (NSD) for the National Cyber Security Division (NCSD) within the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD). As the Director of NSD, Mr. Goode is responsible for leading the deployment and performance of cyber security technologies to counter on-going, real world national cyber threats and apply effective risk mitigation strategies to detect and deter these threats. Mr. Goode leads the development, deployment and operational efforts for the National Cybersecurity Protection System (NCPS), which provides the technological foundation to support the Department’s cybersecurity mission, including the responsibilities executed by the US-CERT. The NCPS, operationally known as Einstein, provides the end-to-end system and capabilities that assist the Department and the Federal government in improving the overall effectiveness of the National cyber security effort.

Under Mr. Goode’s leadership and guidance, NSD in partnership with Industry and Federal partners, provides technological innovation and development to promote the overall effectiveness of the cyber security effort.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Goode served as the Deputy Director of the NSD and for two years prior, he was the Systems Engineering and Integration section chief for NSD. In these capacities, Mr. Goode was responsible for defining and establishing the engineering and programmatic baseline for the NCPS. This included the establishment of the system architecture and design as well as the program and engineering business processes that allow the program office to more efficiently deploy existing capabilities, upgrading with near-term enhancements, and re-assessing long-term architectural solutions in order to close the gap between funding and requirements.

Prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Mr. Goode was a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton. During his time there, he provided strategic and technical guidance in the areas of systems engineering and integration, program management, and acquisition services to senior executives in DHS and the Department of Defense (DoD). His support in this area included establishing the engineering practices for the National Command and Coordination Capability (NCCC) within DHS, which sought to improve Presidential collaboration and communications with Federal, State, and Local leadership during times of National Crisis; providing technical and policy guidance for implementing a DoD Net Centric Systems Engineering capability to enable the integration of transformational programs for OSD/NII; and providing engineering and operational analyses that supported the development, deployment, implementation, and operations of critical communications systems that supported US and International partner requirements.

Mr. Goode holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Central Florida.
