Patches coming to fix critical Windows flaw

Microsoft plans to issue two bulletins next week.

Look for two security bulletins from Microsoft next week. The company’s monthly Patch Tuesday will include fixes for a hole in Windows that has been the target of malicious hackers. SearchSecurity reports the bulletins will cover all Windows versions still supported by Microsoft. That means Windows 7, Vista, and XP. Microsoft engineers are still at work on the patches. But Microsoft also says it will NOT fix serious holes affecting Internet Explorer six, seven and eight. Those vulnerabilities were reported by European researchers last month. In December, Microsoft issued 17 security bulletins, a monthly record. It repaired 40 vulnerabilities across its product line.
