Defense cost tools to be required Feb. 1st

Defense Department employees have only a few weeks to get themselves familiar with a set of online tools designed to estimate the costs.

DOD workers have just a few weeks to get familiar with new online tools for estimating costs. A Pentagon memo says that all defense agencies and military services will need to use the tools beginning February first. They’re applications that generate cost guidance for DOD business activities. That includes everything from hosting a conference to commissioning a new report. In August, Defense Secretary Robert Gates ordered that all new proposals, big or small, come with a price tag.
