Better, faster, cheaper. We talk about it all the time. But one award-winning program actually developed an IT solution to do that.

The USDA in Idaho receives more than 17,000 paper applications for white water river permits. Processing those applications is costly and time consuming. So the agency set up an online self service system where applicants have 24/7 access.

The innovation will save the USDA more than $2.5 million. Chris Dorobek talked with the creators at this year’s American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council’s Excellence in Government Awards. John King and John Hawk of the Forest Service explained how the system works.
