DoD rescinds report length guideline

The Defense Department removed the 10-page limit after Rep. Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) called the department's latest report on China "skimpy."

Lawmakers may now need new reading glasses to ponder Defense Department reports.

The Pentagon has rescinded a guideline that kept its reports to Congress concise.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R-Calif.) had demanded the Defense Department repeal the 10-page limit. He considered the latest report on China skimpy.

He suggested DoD was trying to restrict the information it shares with lawmakers. The Pentagon said the page limit was never a policy but a guideline.

A spokesperson said they were just trying to deliver value to Congress. The department sends lawmakers more than 500 reports a year.
