USAID leverages social media for famine awareness

Getting your message out can be just as important as everything else you do at work.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has launched an interactive communications campaign to raise awareness about famine in Africa.

Haley Van Dyck, USAID’s director of digital strategy and engagement, joined the Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris to discuss the new project.

It’s called the FWD campaign, which stands for famine, war and drought. These are the “the three major crises that have led to this perfect storm of devastation in the Horn of Africa,” the agency said.

The campaign, which Van Dyck said is different than anything the agency has done before, is centered around building a strong online presence and using social media to raise awareness
