With 2012 just around the corner, if you’re a new federal retiree (and even if you’re not), you may be wondering when you can expect your monthly annuity check.

The Office of Personnel management has released the 2012 annuity check payment schedule.

Below, you’ll find the monthly annuity payment dates (which covers the month before) as well as the last date to make changes to payments for the next month.

The first annuity check of 2012 will be credited Tuesday Jan. 3, 2012. However, the last day to make changes to that payment — Dec. 9 — has already passed. The calendar starts with the February annuity payment.

There are also other important dates federal retirees should be aware of. They are:

  • Jan. 1 Changes made during the Federal Health Benefits Program Open Season take effect.
  • Jan. 2 Cost-of-living adjustment will appear in payments (representing benefits for the month of December 2011, when the COLA took effect).
  • Jan. 31 If you received payments at all during 2011, you should receive a 1099R — a statement of earnings.
  • Feb. 1 Health benefit premiums that were effective Jan. 1 appear in payments.
