2 senators urge adoption of cybersecurity bill

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said the United States is under cyber attack and that cybersecurity was a matter of national security.

Two Democratic Senators are urging their colleagues to hurry up and pass cybersecurity legislation.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said the United States is under cyber attack and that cybersecurity was a matter of national security. He cited one company that lost 10 years and $1 billion’s worth of research and development virtually overnight because of a cyber intrusion.

Blumenthal spoke out on the Senate floor yesterday as did Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse. (D-R.I.)

Senators largely agree on the need for cybersecurity legislation. They’re stuck on the question of whether the government should require, or merely suggest, that operators of critical infrastructure meet certain security standards.
