Is the G Fund or the F Fund safer if govt starts raiding TSP funds? Anybody? Bueller?

Govt has raided the G fund at least twice since 1995 and threatened to do it in 2011. They can raid it when we hit the debt limit. Both times were shortlived and we still earned the G fund interest rate - which is pitifully low now. We need an M fund for precious metals. The dollar will take a nose dive due to the Fed creating money out of thin air and the govt spending like a drunken sailor.

Be very careful with precious metals. I admit I have no clue as to whether they will go up or down. Neither do you. You write what will happen, and it may, but you really do not know. Remember, if you are FERS, you depend on the TSP. If precious metals go down, like in the 1980's, you are in deep trouble. A percentage of your money in precious metals might be a good idea, but not all of it.

Ya think?? It's not good to put all of your money in ANY one basket, not just a precious metals basket, whether you are FERS or CSRS or SCARS or MARS or whatever.

If POTUS gets his way and there's a permanent raise in the debt ceiling there won't be a need to worry about any raid on the TSP. Who said the below while in the US Senate in 2006 when the GOP wanted the debt ceiling raised?...... This is while your friends, the Republicans, wanted to raise the debt ceiling and run deficits during times of relative prosperity. Now they fight it tooth and nail. Oh, what hypocrites. How much of those deficits were to fight the improper Iraqi War?

How much to fight the Iraqi war? Probably not as much as the amount used to fund outrageous entitlement programs to jobless (by their own choice) but very fertile potheads (by their own choice).

The difference is your benefits (an entitlement) are much fatter than jobless benefits. However, you would not know this as you probably had a steady job with nice fringes.

Yes, in fact I did decide long ago to work and support myself and my family, and yes by doing so I did end up with a nice pension, which I worked my behind off for many years for. You had a nice job with nice fringiesbecause you were fortunate. Some of the others are lazy. Some went for the higher paying jobs and got hit by the lousy economy. And some had lousy jobs and were still laid off due to the economy. The economy has been horrible for over five years which is almost 1/2 as long as the Great Depression. (However unemployment never came close to the Great Depression levels.) So cut you huffy radical right nonsense and support those stuck by you radical rightists.

Neither is safe if the government raids the TSP. we would get an IOU like Social Security does. I am not sure the Feds can raid the Actual TSP part of the funds as it should be in a trust fund like a 401(k). Companies can't just "borrow" from their employees 401(k)s. that said, the Government did borrow against the Pension Fund. I am not sure if they meant just Civil Service or also the pension side of the FERS. But, it wouldn't surprise me to see them go after the TSP.

What I find ironic is that if any non-Government employer ever raided their employee's 401k, even with paying it back, that is considered a very serious act and the SEC would be all over them. I wonder why the rules don't apply across the board.......
