    Mike's column has been around for at least my 20+ years service, and has been a valuable asset for Feds. Who would have a bigger rolodex than Mike? What he reminds us of is the non-stop proposals regarding Fed employment. Most of the bad things have never happened. Were they for real or just bargaining chips? I have no idea, but without Mike on guard, who knows what might have happened. In the meantime, hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

    The Republicans like to shoot out the very worst items such as 3 more years of pay freezes for a total of 5, etc. and make the feds happy by inflicting a lesser evil. Thus we have the 2 year freeze. Now we have new employees getting the shaft with present employees getting stuck also. And for what?

    If there is any good to come out of this it serves as a warning for future generations. I'm constantly used as an example by a career counselor to show that although there is employment opportunity at the Government, there is no long term stability or appreciation. Kids are told to go in, take what you can get and then get out. How true.....
