Encore presentation, Originally aired May 6, 2010 -- Federal Security Spotlight this week delves into the issue of internet routing tables and the Border Gateway Protocol.

What's going on?

The protocol in recent weeks appears to have been hacked in such a way that traffic from some of the leading U.S. business and government institutions was rerouted -- through China.

The event only lasted 17 minutes, but it showed in stark reality a dangerous new possibility for Internet mischief.

Analyzing the events is Rod Joffe, the chief technologist at Neustar, a major Internet operator.

Discussing efforts to add encryption and authentication to the BGP is Doug Montgomery of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
