If you're looking for evidence that NASA "digs it", look no further than NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffat Field, California. This weekend, NASA holds the 2009 Regolith Excavation Challenge at Ames. What is Regolith, you might ask? it's the scientific name for moon dirt.

The Challenge offers a $750 thousand reward for the best robot that can dig a fixed-sized ditch in simulated moon soil. Officials say three of the 23 competing teams will walk away with part of the reward.
