Navy captain retires as unit he commanded earns special recognition

Naval History and Heritage Command receives Meritorious Unit Commendation for improving its handling of historic materials.

Turning Things Around Navy Capt. Henry Hendrix, the commander of the Naval History and Heritage Command, had his retirement ceremony on Friday, June 27, 2014, ending 26 years in the service.

When Hendrix arrived at the NHHC in 2012, the command was the subject of a report from the Navy Inspector General that criticized the command's handling of archival materials.

Two years later, NHHC was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation, which recognized its efforts in improving the way it curates and archives historic materials.
