The second meeting of the In Depth Technology board took a close look at the Hewlett-Packard 2140 mini-notebook, HP's newest entry into the netbook sector. Carol Hess Nichols, HP's Director of Worldwide Business Notebook Marketing, talked with former GSA Administrator Lurita Doan, former Transportation CIO Dan Mintz, and me about how HP is positioning the 2140 in the marketplace. Dan and Lurita detailed the results they got over the past two weeks or so putting the 2140 through its paces.

Tomorrow is the debut of the In Depth Technology Board. I hope this is the beginning of yet another Federal News Radio service that will help you do your job better. I'll be looking for new technologies to save your agency money, make your people more productive, or both. I'll put them in the hands of Federal executives who will evaluate them based on their experience and expertise in the Federal marketplace. Then we'll review them, and bring in the vendors to answer questions that Federal managers care about.
This series WON'T be an analysis of specifications and abstract capabilities. I'll try to keep it as nerd-free as possible. We'll be asking the questions you'll need answers for, when you need to pitch your bosses on making IT investments.
We're beginning the series with several segments on netbooks, the new generation of mobile computing that is taking the consumer market by storm. My fellow panelists for the netbook series include:
