The Army has a lot of land — and needs a lot of energy.

Those two facts have led the service to begin working on a plan to use that land to help its bases become more energy independent.

Katherine Hammack, the assistant secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, is the service’s energy guru.

She joined the Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris from the Association of the U.S. Army convention in Washington, D.C. to discuss the service’s latest efforts to make strides in clean energy.

She said the Army is not only focused on using clean energy but on actually developing it.
