Schmidt: U.S. can fight cyberwar

Schmidt tells GovInfoSecurity. Last month, former National Intelligence Director Michael McConnell told lawmakers that the United States would lose a cyberwar. Schmidt countered that the country is better prepared than ever before, but that the country must remain vigilant.

  • What are the big challenges facing the federal government’s cyber-security initiatives? Coordination. That’s the assessment coming from the Government Accountability Office. The GAO offers an assessment of the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative, the key program that started under the Bush administration and seeks to secure key critical national IT systems. GAO said that the program is at risk and will not fully achieve its goal to reduce vulnerabilities, protect against intrusions and anticipate future threats unless several challenges to its objectives are met, according to GovInfoSecurity.
