Some have asked the question: following the attacks of 9/11, did America violate its own principles, and Constitution, in response to fears of terrorism?

As we’ve had in our news, charges are being made against CIA interrogators for threatening to kill the children of one detainee, and threatening sexual assault against the mother of another, at the height of the Bush administration’s war on terror.

David Silverberg, the editor of HSToday, gives us some “historical perspective” on the issue. He points out that the panic and hysteria that followed the attacks of 9/11 was hardly the first time the country had gone through such a trauma.
