Army to expand on lessons learned from Apps contest

Fifty-three teams of developers from the Army showed how to beat the bureaucratic bounds that so-often tie up the procurement system. And now the Army wants to use the model developed by the Apps for Army contest more widely. Federal News Radio’s Jason Miller joins us with details on results of the contest and where the Army wants to take this approach. Click on the audio link above to hear Jason Miller’s report.
The Marine Corps is looking ahead to the end of the war in Afghanistan. GovExec reports that they plan to report by the end of the year on how security services will have to be set up after the war is over. Their Force Structure Review Group is going to look at everything from equipment to missions. The goal is to define the role of the Marine Corps post moving forward. Much of the assessment will depend on the status of operations in Afghanistan, but the group’s findings could influence budget requests as early as fiscal 2013.
