The Navy will deploy a new breed of fighters to combat Somali pirates: internet-gamers. The WashingtonPost reports Navy is taking military strategy sessions online as they look to bring in experts from around the world. Nearly 7,000 people have signed up to participate in the project named MOW-GLI or Massively Multiplayer Online Wargame Leveraging the Internet. Participants are given hypothetical scenarios where private ships are hijacked off Somalia’s coast. The Navy hopes the technology developed for the project can be applied for other on-going conflicts.
