A drive to push federal agencies to adopt cloud computing is earning a GSA employee some prestigious recognition. Sonny Hashmi is the acting chief information officer at the General Services Administration. He’s a finalist for one of this year’s Service to America Medals in the Management Excellence category, which is presented by the nonprofit Partnership for Public Service. Hashmi led GSA’s Cloud Initiative: a multi-year strategy to move core agency systems to the cloud. Hashmi also led GSA’s “Drive to the Cloud” initiative. Under Hashmi’s leadership, GSA transferred almost two thousand legacy applications into about 100 cloud-based applications. Multiple agencies are now using the blueprint he helped create to adopt cloud computing in an easy and affordable way.
