The remains of 83,000 U.S. service members who died in past wars are still missing. Congress has criticized the Defense Department for not moving fast enough to recover them. But each case takes painstaking effort and lots of time. Retired Maj. Gen. Montague Winfield is the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Prisoners of War and Missing Personnel Affairs. He explains how his team recently recovered and buried the remains of two Marines who disappeared in the South Pacific during World War II.
