Cybersecurity tax season tips

It’s tax season, and cyber crooks are sending counterfeit IRS emails in the hopes of snaring your personal data.

The Wall Street Journal reports these cyber crooks have created websites in order to lure unsuspecting citizens into clicking the wrong link or downloading a virus-laden PDF.

But there are some ways to protect yourself:

• Don’t download documents that say they are from the IRS or a tax preparer. The government will never send IRS forms over the internet.
• Don’t file your taxes using a wireless connection or an unsecured public wireless hotspots like the ones provided by coffee shops.
