DoD tries to increase access to bases in Australia

There will not be new U.S. bases in Australia, but the department will have easier access to Australian facilities.

The Defense Department is trying to gain more access to Australian military bases, including ports and logistics facilities, DoD Buzz reports.

Secretary Leon Panetta and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are meeting with Australian brass to sign an agreement that would do so.

Australian and U.S. commanders will work closer together with full access to intelligence and maintenance facilities.
