Federal offices in Washington, D.C., are operating under a delayed arrival schedule Monday, Jan. 28, due to inclement weather expected in the region. The Office of Personnel Management is asking federal employees to stay off the roads until 10 a.m.

OPM Director John Berry said in an email to Federal News Radio that federal employees can start their commute at 10 a.m. Offices will allow employees entry once they arrive. The offices will open to the public at 12 noon.

Feds are also being given the option to take unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework Monday.

“In accordance with their agency’s policies and procedures, subject to any applicable collective bargaining requirements, non-emergency employees may notify their supervisor of their intent to use:

  • earned annual leave, compensatory time off, credit hours, or sick leave, as appropriate;
  • leave without pay;
  • their flexible work schedule day off or rearrange their work hours under flexible work schedules; or
  • unscheduled telework (if telework-ready). (Employees who request unscheduled leave should be charged leave for the entire workday.)”

Telework-ready employees should be prepared to telework for the entire workday, or take unscheduled leave or a combination of both, according to OPM. Any employee already scheduled for pre-approved leave will still be charged leave for the entire workday.

Emergency employees are expected to report to work on time unless otherwise directed by their agencies.

Baltimore-area agencies

The Baltimore Federal Executive Board is recommending agencies in that region be open with unscheduled leave and unscheduled telework in effect.
