Szykman: Some of the hardest CIO challenges are cultural

Five agencies score zero on using strong authentication with their IT networks. That's according to the White House's annual compliance review of the Federal Information Security Management Act. Nextgov reports three of those agencies had cybersecurity breaches in recent years. Simon Szykman is chief technology officer for the federal services division at Attain, and former chief information officer of the Commerce Department. He broke down the results from the 2014 FISMA review on In Depth with Francis Rose.

CIO Council to try to deepen the pool of IT workers

A new survey from the Chief Information Officers and Chief Human Capital Officers councils shows most agencies are finding the pool of job candidates to choose from is too shallow. Darren Ash and Richard McKinney, the co-chairmen of the CIO Council's Workforce Committee, said 75 percent of agency IT managers and human resource executives responding to the survey said they couldn't recruit the necessary talent to do mission critical work.
