The Obama administration says discrimination is partly to blame for a pay gap between men and women. But Congressional Republicans are skeptical. They have balked at a bill to address pay inequality. In the meantime, President Barack Obama has signed an executive order for federal contractors. They will have to report to the Labor Department detailed salary information broken down by race and gender. They also won't be able to retaliate against employees who discuss salary. Trey Hodgkins, senior vice president for the public sector at the Information Technology Industry Council, told Federal Drive hosts Tom Temin and Emily Kopp how contractors are reacting to the executive order. House Dems push for larger pay raise for feds

House Democrats are pushing for federal employees to get a pay raise next year that's more than three times larger than President Barack Obama proposed. A bill introduced Wednesday by Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) and Jim Moran (D-Va.) would provide federal employees with a 3.3 percent across-the-board pay raise in 2015.

Key Senate panel to probe federal pay, morale issues

The Senate subcommittee with oversight of the federal workforce will take up the issue of federal-employee compensation and sinking employee morale. Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), the subcommittee chairman, said at the National Treasury Employees Union's annual legislative conference that the hearing would focus, in part, on making sure federal pay stays competitive with the private sector.
