Military fight against ISIL may require more money

The Pentagon may need to ask Congress for more money if the Obama administration steps up attacks against ISIL. DoD has not yet stated publicly how much it has spent so far in the fight against ISIL. The U.S. operation in Iraq so far has included relief drops of 636 bundles of food, water and medical supplies, at least 100 air strikes and about 60 reconnaissance aircraft missions a day.

US to help Ukraine

The U.S. is planning to send medical supplies, helmets and other non-lethal aid to the Ukrainian military in response to Russia's aggressive activities, which the U.S. says are designed to destabilize that country. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said at a news conference that he spoke to Ukraine's acting defense minister to tell him that President Barack Obama had approved the assistance. But, he pointed out, the aid doesn't include any weapons.

DoD: Japan's tragedies 'epic'

Japan's earthquake and tsunami are tragedies on an epic scale, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said Monday, and the U.S. military will do all it can to help.
