Inspectors General are encountering speed bumps in their daily routines. Forty-seven IGs say they are having a hard time getting documents from their respective agencies in order to complete their work. Agencies include the Peace Corps, Environmental Protection Agency and the Justice Department. Now, the IGs are asking the Office of Management and Budget for help. Michael Bromwich is founder and managing principal of the Bromwich Group and an experienced federal troubleshooter. He joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to clarify the relationship between IGs and agencies.

New whistleblower protections take effect for federal contractors

The law, which goes into effect today, expands reprisal protections to subcontractors and lets contractor employees report wrongdoing to supervisors within their own companies. Previously, contractors would have to go to government agencies or Congress to report waste, fraud and abuse.

OMB alumni to suggest revisions to cyber section of A-130

The group will create a white paper with recommendations this summer to modernize the 10-year-old policy. Among the areas they are looking at are continuous monitoring, cloud computing, shared services and the definition of a system. Updating A-130 will help agencies move from a 'checklist' mode to monitoring systems in real time for threats and vulnerabilities, said Frank Reeder, a former OMB official.
