If the recent Washington Metro tunnel fire showed anything, it's that emergency coordination down under is practically non-existent. Equally missing was interoperable radio communications something the federal government has deemed essential for emergency response. Federal efforts to improve radio go back at least 20 years. Alan Tilles, chairman of the Telecommunications Department at the law firm Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy and Ecker, joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to discuss the communications failure.

Cautious responders at Pentagon transport ill woman to area hospital

Arlington County officials have transported an ill woman found Friday in a Pentagon parking lot to a local Virginia hospital. According to a DoD spokesperson, the woman told first responders she had recently traveled to Africa.

Run to honor Sept. 11 victims stops in D.C.

Thirty-six emergency responders are running cross country to honor firefighters, police and EMT's who died in the terror attacks of September 11th. They began their run in Santa Monica, Calif. on August 12.
