USAID crowdsources to clean up aid data

The United States Agency for International Development called on volunteers to clean up data with more accurate geolocation information. Over the weekend, USAID held a crowdsourcing event asking for volunteers from the public to help code and research information on 20,000 records.

USGS mobilizes Web 2.0 to better understand natural disasters

The agency mines data from YouTube, Twitter and other social media tools to ascertain what's happening on the ground during earthquakes. Did You Feel It? Web site makes it easier for the public to submit their experiences after the earth shakes. USGS also is considering new early warning alert system that would tell the public before earthquakes hit the surface.
