USGS mobilizes Web 2.0 to better understand natural disasters

The agency mines data from YouTube, Twitter and other social media tools to ascertain what's happening on the ground during earthquakes. Did You Feel It? Web site makes it easier for the public to submit their experiences after the earth shakes. USGS also is considering new early warning alert system that would tell the public before earthquakes hit the surface.
