DHS details services, tools needed to better defend federal networks

The draft solicitation asks for 15 toolsets and 11 service areas to help agencies implement continuous monitoring as-a-service and to buy sensors. DHS has asked vendors on GSA Schedule 70 to comment on the requirements.

Funding boost gives DHS a head start in 2013 to fight cyber threats

The agency plans to release solicitations to help agencies implement sensors to detect threats, followed by industry-provided services to analyze them. Congress approved $183 million to begin in 2013 to help get continuous monitoring off the ground more quickly.

Agencies met 77 percent of cyber requirements in 2011

In a new report to Congress, the administration said continuous monitoring is taking hold, but HSPD-12 still is floundering. OMB also reported agencies spent $13.3 billion on cybersecurity last year and that government employees make up 60 percent of the cyber workforce.

Agencies struggle with continuous monitoring mandate

RedSeal Networks interviewed more than 200 federal managers and found agencies are unsure how to define continuous monitoring. OMB is requiring departments to have continuous monitoring in place by Sept. 30. The survey found many agencies are trying to figure out the best way to implement these capabilities.
