Congress blames itself for duplicative programs

Faced with a 423-page report from the Government Accountability Office detailing potential duplication, fragmentation and overlap in nearly every corner of government, lawmakers pointed a finger at themselves for reducing oversight of federal programs and trying to fix problems without understanding what solutions the government already offered.

Coburn report identifies nearly $7B in wasteful government spending

Among the report's outline of wasteful spending were more than $35 million in wasteful spending on political conventions, $14 million on an Air Force green construction project that was victim to "poor planning," and $4.68 billion identified by the final report of the Commission on Wartime Contracting on contracting waste in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Senate committee approves bipartisan Postal Service reform bill

A plan to cut the Postal Service's costs so it can stay in business has passed the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Relations Committee. Majority Leader Harry Reid has promised a vote on the Senate floor as soon as possible, according to committee leaders.
