GSA's Sonny Hashmi a finalist for a Partnership for Public Service medal

A drive to push federal agencies to adopt cloud computing is earning a GSA employee some prestigious recognition. Sonny Hashmi is the acting chief information officer at the General Services Administration. He's a finalist for one of this year's Service to America Medals in the Management Excellence category, which is presented by the nonprofit Partnership for Public Service.

For GSA, virtual desktop opens the door to more cost savings

Sonny Hashmi, acting CIO at GSA, said his goal is to have at least half of all employees using VDI in 2014 and 75 percent by the end of 2015. VDI, along with application rationalization and other initiatives, is part of how GSA is looking to reduce IT spending further.
