Small business goals remain at center of acquisition strategy
Sen. Snowe co-authors new legislation to implement many of the recommendations by GAO to improve the small business contracting program.
GSA says agencies have awarded 37 task orders worth more than $400 million on the large and small versions of the technology services governmentwide acquisition contract. DoD is the biggest user of the large business Alliant contract so far.
Agency made awards to small businesses to provide support services in eight categories. The contract is worth up to $2 billion over seven years. FAA also plans to automate procurement system under separate contract that is just getting off the ground.

EAGLE II is a follow-on to the current contract. DHS is planning big changes for how it runs this new contract. Bids are due in January.
Agency awarded spots on the $5 billion technology services deal to 30 companies, including 15 small businesses. The contract is open to state and local governments, which receive grants from CDC. The goal is to promote standards and interoperability to share public health information.
GTSI can go back to working with federal agencies, but the company must pull back from any contracts where small businesses are prime vendors. GTSI also must have an SBA-approved monitor its current and future dealings with small businesses.
