Union opposes effort to mandate cameras on Border Patrol agents - November 1, 2013

This week on AFGE's "Inside Government" National Border Patrol Council Vice President Shawn Moran opposes a Customs and Border Protection proposal that would mandate the use of cameras in vehicles and on Border Patrol agents. Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund Communications and Development Director Robyn Kehoe details FEEA's efforts to help federal employees furloughed due to sequestration and the government shutdown. AFGE TSA Local 556 President Don Thomas and DoD Local 2516 President Paul Ferris also appear.

Immigrant groups sue federal border agencies

Customs and Border Protection faces a bevy of lawsuits from immigrant advocacy groups. They allege Border Patrol agents had an American citizen deported, stopped another only to do a "citizenship checkup" and beat up another so badly she had to go to the hospital.

CBP issues tens of thousands of furlough notices

In order to counter funding reductions due to sequestration, Customs and Border Protection has begun sending furlough notices to many of its 60,000 employees. An officer in the union representing CBP agents says these measures amount to a 40 percent reduction in salaries.
