OMB prepares for open gov sites to go dark in May

Several sites, including Data.gov, the IT Dashboard and the FEDRamp cloud efforts, could be shut down in the next two months if the administration doesn't get more money under the E-government fund. In all, nine sites are on the list to be discontinued by July 30 if OMB doesn't find money to keep it going. Experts say OMB has several ways to keep the sites up, including pass-the-hat among agencies.

CMS to take on improper payments in new way

The agency plans to follow the model credit card companies use to identify potential problems on the front end instead of trying to chase down the money after the fact. Kundra pitches more budget authority for CIOs

The federal CIO told House lawmakers that one major reason IT projects fail is the lack of authority agency technology executives have over spending. Kundra said as part of the 25-point IT reform plan, OMB is restricting the roles of all major agency CIOs. He said the Interior Department is the model, and HHS is next.
