Air Force swears in new vice chief of staff

Lt. Gen. Larry Spencer was pinned with his fourth star and was officially sworn in as the Air Force's vice chief of staff. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz did the honors during a Pentagon ceremony Friday. Spencer previously served as the director of force structure, resources and assessment with the Joint Staff.

AF Chief of Staff takes last flight as active-duty officer

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz has taken his last flight as an active-duty officer. Gen. Schwartz flew aboard a MC-130E Combat Talon I out of Hurlburt Field on Thursday for his "fini flight." He joined an MC-130E crew on a local training sortie.

Welsh nominated for Air Force chief of staff

If confirmed, Welsh would succeed Gen. Norton Schwartz, who is retiring this summer. Welsh has flown more than than 3,400 hours. He completed multiple combat missions during Operation Desert Storm. And he's a 1976 graduate of the Air Force Academy.

More than half of Air Force personnel cuts to come from National Guard

The Air Force plans to further reduce its ranks by 9,900 airmen as part of DoD's overall budget reductions. The personnel cuts tilt heavily toward the Air National Guard.
