DoD plans to tame vendor business systems
The Pentagon has set up a new subcommittee to review its processes, policies and practices for how it audits and administers contractor purchasing, billing, estimating and accounting systems. This DoD-only panel will develop recommendations and an action plan in the next six months. DCAA says about 69 of the top 100 Defense contractors have at least one deficient business system.

Acquisition Panel calls for major changes at the Pentagon
There's another voice in the effort to reform the defense acquisition process. After mounting evidence the defense acquisition system was not nimble enough to respond to changing needs, not tough enough in protecting taxpayer money, and not disciplined enough in weapons systems acquisition, the House Armed Services Committee created the Defense Acquisition Reform Panel to find solutions to these problems.

Pentagon contracting reform bill heads for full House
The House Armed Services Committee has given unanimous approval to a bill that would mandate sweeping reforms of the Pentagon's non-weapons system contracting and acquisitions programs. The bill, HR 5013, enjoys broad bi-partisan support and is being fast-tracked for a possible vote as early as next week.

House takes aim on Pentagon contracting reform
Last year, Congress passed and sent on to President Obama a bill to reform how the Pentagon acquires large weapons systems. Now, House lawmakers are back with a proposal to reform the other 80 percent of Defense Department procurement that does not have to do with weapons.
