Road to interoperable DoD network starts with less-than-perfect solutions

DoD leaders advocate plug-and-play IT buying
Defense leaders say the Pentagon should skip buying IT for some major systems until contractors finish production. Many big projects take years to complete, meaning the technology inside becomes outdated by project completion.

Army CIO Sorenson to retire
The general spent more than 37 years in the service, including the last three as CIO. Mike Kreiger will be the acting CIO in the interim. Sorenson led several enterprise initiatives including moving the Army's e-mail system to DISA.
