Slow progress forces Navy to change strategies for cloud, data centers

The Department of Navy later this summer will move the Data Center and Application Optimization program office under its PEO-EIS group and out of its SPAWAR organization. Acting CIO John Zangardi said the DCAO will create a cloud brokerage hosting program with commercial and federally-approved clouds.

Navy finalizing strategy to begin moving cyber into warfighter domain

The Department of Navy's Cyber Fleet Command is among the first military services to recognize the need to operationalize cyber along with traditional weapons. DISA Director Gen. Ronnie Hawkins said the Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS) should move into a cyber range to test the security architecture against real-world attack simulations.

Navy picks HP for long-awaited NGEN contract

Hewlett Packard, the same vendor which has owned and operated the Navy Department's networks for more than a decade will continue a similar role under a new multibillion dollar contract. But the Navy and Marine Corps will take ownership of their IT infrastructure and reserve the right to recompete any or all of it at a future date.

Marine Corps prepares to cut cord on NMCI

The Marine Corps will transition on Saturday to a government-owned, government-operated IT network, ending its 12-year reliance on the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI). The Navy said it expects to award the follow-on contract to NMCI by June 30.
