Federal employees across the government have been watching the IRS and the challenges it has with its workforce. Commissioner John Koskinen said this year will be the last year for a hiring freeze, as the agency has to replenish a staff that's aging in place with thousands eligible to retire. This sounds like good news for IRS employees. But is it? Federal News Radio's Web manager Julia Ziegler joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to share with some of your comments.

At this near mid-point in the fiscal year, it looks like COLAs are going to be pretty skimpy once again. Lots of people are sounding off about it at Federal News Radio.com. Web manager Julia Ziegler joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive with some of your comments.

Federal employees in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore got an extra day off this week after a snow storm swept through the area. The storm dropped anywhere from 3 inches of snow in some places to 7 inches in other spots. Not exactly a blizzard. Still, it led to a closure of federal buildings, and at least one disgusted congressman. Web Manager Julia Ziegler joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive with a storm review, and to share some of your comments.

Is the federal hiring process rigged? If so, is it even worth it to apply for a federal job? A recent report from the Merit Systems Protection Board says that, for the most part, federal hiring follows merit principles. Meaning, most jobs are filled through competition. But a commentator at FederalNewsRadio.com has a contrary view, and that's gotten our readers talking. Julia Ziegler is Federal News Radio's Web Manager. She joined Tom Temin on the Federal Drive to relay some of your comments on the matter.
