Agencies continue to struggle with records management
Federal agencies continue to struggle with properly managing their records, and the changing nature and technology of 21st-century record-keeping could throw a further wrench in the process, according to an annual report from the National Archives and Records Administration.

IT executives see telework storm on the horizon
Forty-five percent of the IT executives polled in for the 2012-2013 Telework/Mobile IT Almanac expected to see an increase in part-time mobile workers over the next two years and 59 percent anticipated more regular teleworkers.

OMB to increase IT project oversight with improved dashboard
Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel said agency technology managers will receive reports on the accuracy of the data they put in the portal. The Office of Management and Budget will use the reports to spot possible problematic projects. Version two of the IT Dashboard also will offer more information on specific projects that fall under a bigger investment category.

Report predicts post-PC era for agency IT
Aileen Black, vice president of federal at IT virtualization company VMware, told In Depth with Francis Rose she thinks agencies are well into the mobile future. VMware, along with Carahsoft and MeriTalk, surveyed more than 150 agency chief information officers and IT managers for a report, "Mobile Power Government: Driving Increasingly Productive, Efficient Agencies."

TIGTA upgrading network to handle new mobile requirements
George Jakabcin, the agency's CIO, said every employee will get a new laptop and be able to access the network through a WiFi VPN connection. More than 80 percent of all employees work outside the office at least one day a week.
